Horror Cookies in Space III: Return of the Blog

Horror Cookies in Space III: Return of the Blog

Hello again travelers! This is Elsie, once again bringing you a new issue of “Staff Picks.”

This week, we wanted to focus on a few of our new TCG drops. We had quite a busy release schedule in June and early July, and we’re ready to share what we’ve been obsessed with. Featuring cameos from all of your fave Haven staff, we hope this week will show you some games you would’ve otherwise missed. We’ll also be going over a new type of local event we’ve recently begun hosting, so stay tuned for more info!

From gacha games turned card games, intergalactic power struggles, and sci-fi horrors beyond our comprehension, this is the third installment of “Staff Picks!”

MATT - COOKIE RUN BRAVERSE

“This one was a pleasant surprise. My life has slowly been taken over by cookie flavors that really shouldn’t be cookie flavors.”

CookieRun: Braverse is an exciting new TCG that was recently translated and brought over from Korea. Set in the Devsisters game universe of CookieRun: Kingdom, this card game allows players to take control of their favorite gingerbread soldiers and go head-to-head in super sweet combat. Players can use traps and arenas to shift the game to their advantage, and use resources to enact devastating attacks and abilities. With several different color deck types to choose from, and a 60 card deck, the game promises robust and easy gameplay that focuses on strategy.

Mixing mechanics from different games to synthesize a system I would most closely describe as MTG meets Pokémon, CookieRun: Braverse is just beginning a wild and sugary journey at the store. We have started CookieRun locals every Saturday, so stop by when you have a chance. In our Discord channel, the community of players is uber friendly and willing to help you get your footing.

So, what are you waiting for? Make sure to save some Soul Jam and pop some dough in the oven, because these booster boxes are selling like hot… cakes? Cookies?

Locals for Cookie Run TCG on Saturdays at 6:30pm!

(Editors note: We currently do not have CookieRun starters, or packs, but we are getting more soon, join our discord for the latest updates!)

GRANTLEY - STAR WARS UNLIMITED: LEGENDS OF THE FORCE

“Love me some Star Wars.”

Another TCG set, this time a new set of an existing game. SWU has made its awaited return with Legends of The Force! Instead of other sets focusing on underworld or prequel characters, this new set focuses on force users, big and small. Ever since SWU’s release, players have been itching to use force mechanics in play, so this set has answered their prayers.

The new mechanic for this set is the addition of the Force Token. A Force Token allows players to trigger effects listed on unit cards, expending the token and providing the effect. The set also introduced a new keyword, “hidden.” This keyword prevents a unit from being attacked on the same turn it was put into play. These shifts allow players to tweak their existing decks and shift their strategies more than they ever could before. There are also new prestige unit cards, with wonderful new card art and wicked showcases for the newest leaders.

Hop into whatever you prefer (whether it’s an X-Wing or TIE fighter) and grab your booster boxes of Legends today!

Join us for SWUesdays at 7pm , and SWUaturdays at 6pm!

ELSIE - MOTHERSHIP RPG

“This game is a love letter to Alien, Annihilation, and Arkham Horror all at once. I love to be scared, did you pick up on that?”

Set in a world that is inhospitable and full of lethal threats, Mothership is a game that will rip you to shreds and destroy you over and over again. Set in the vast future, amidst an age of androids, scientists and spaceship pilots, you will either take control of a hapless crew member, or become the terrifying overseer known as The Warden. Each adventure in Mothership is different, relying on players making mistakes in a high stress environment.

Unlike many other RPGs of its ilk, Mothership uses a probability dice system that compounds stress onto its players. The more stress you’re dealing with, the worse the situation for you and your fellow crew members becomes. Though you might be able to fight back against aliens or other sci-fi monstrosities, combat is brutal and highly discouraged. It will take a brave heart and careful wit to outsmart the extraterrestrial threats you’ll come into contact with during a campaign run in this system… and a really good amount of luck as well. Try not to get killed, although death is sometimes preferable to a potential fate in this system.

If you don’t plan on getting facehugged anytime soon, Mothership and its deluxe edition are available for purchase on our website!
